Screenings in the Bay (Friday to Sunday): Sinister Creature Con, It Comes At Night, Camera Obscura

I really like when the weekend works out like this, where there aren't too many screenings happening but there is a cool horror convention just about an hour away. 😁

We are getting two new horror releases, It Comes At Night and Camera Obscura. Luckily, some of us Overlook nerds checked out the former last night at an advanced screening at the Alamo Drafthouse. Now we just need to rent the latter sometime soon, which means there's no reason not to check out Sinister Creature Con in Stockton! Anyone else planning to go?

Opening Today

Early Screenings Thursday 8th (1hr 37min)
Opens Friday 9th
Horror/ Mystery (IMDB)
Imagine the end of the world. Now imagine something worse. Award-winning filmmaker Trey Edward Shults follows his incredible debut feature KRISHA with IT COMES AT NIGHT, a horror film following a man (Joel Edgerton) as he learns that the evil stalking his family home may be only a prelude to horrors that come from within. Secure within a desolate home as an unnatural threat terrorizes the world, the tenuous domestic order he has established with his wife and son is put to the ultimate test with the arrival of a desperate young family seeking refuge. Despite the best intentions of both families, paranoia and mistrust boil over as the horrors outside creep ever-closer, awakening something hidden and monstrous within him as he learns that the protection of his family comes at the cost of his soul.

Now that Chris and his girlfriend, Rose, have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy and Dean. At first, Chris reads the family's overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter's interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.
